Lady
Pilots tumble to Tougaloo, 58-46;
Pilots bite Bulldogs, 85-82
01/08/04
Both the Lady Pilots and Pilots were in action Thursday night at
the LSUS Gym.
The women took the floor in the opener looking for their first Gulf
Coast Athletic Conference win in school history. The first half
looked promising as the Lady Pilots kept pace with the Tougaloo
College Lady Bulldogs, only trailing 32-28 at the half.
The Lady Pilots struggled in the second half and allowed the Lady
Bulldogs to finish the game with a 20-2 run for a 58-46 victory.
Kendera Monette finished with a game high 14 points and 13 rebounds
for the Lady Pilots, followed by teammate India Coleman with 11
points and 5 boards.
The LSUS Pilots took the floor in the nightcap determined to prevent
a Tougaloo sweep. Rico Payne led the Pilots to victory with a 29-point
performance, including 6 of 9 from beyond the 3-point line. The
Pilots improved their GCAC record to 2-1, 8-6 overall.
Both LSUS teams head to New Orleans this weekend for conference
doubleheaders at Loyola University Saturday and Dilliard University
Monday. Both teams will be in action Saturday, Jan. 17, against
Southern University-New Orleans. The Lady Pilots tip off at 5:30
p.m., with the Pilots following at 7:30 p.m.
