LSUS
reps to take train to American Humanics institute
12/10/03
LSUS
students, faculty and staff will attend the American Humanics Management
Institute in Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 2-5. The LSUS representatives
will leave Shreveport Dec. 31 and travel to Kansas City by train.
American Humanics students attending the conference are graduate
students Jacqulyn Ball, Valentin Miafo Donfack, Jay Emmons, Mary
Ann Heinsohn and Patrina Williamson; seniors Constance Carter, Rachel
Davis, Joanna Morgan and Sarah Tully, and juniors Marian Claville,
Joseph Johnson Jr. and Stacy Summerlin. Dr. Norman A. Dolch, director
of the LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public Policy, will
attend the conference along with institute staffers Stacey Bass
and Amanda Joy Bell – also a graduate student in the program,
and Glenda Erwin, LSUS associate vice chancellor for university
development.
The annual American Humanics conference provides the capstone educational
experience for college juniors and seniors in undergraduate nonprofit
studies. While at the institute, students will participate in case
studies, workshops and forums to learn about current issues in the
nonprofit sector. They also will attend career and campus fairs,
and network with hundreds of American Humanics students, as well
as local, regional and national nonprofit executives.
American Humanics is a national organization that certifies students
to work in youth and human service agencies upon graduation. It
was established on the LSUS campus in 1995 and currently has about
55 members. Students must meet academic and extra-curricular requirements
to receive American Humanics Certification. One requirement is attending
AHMI once.
