Pilots jolt Jarvis, 89-74; avenge earlier loss
12/08/03
Chad McDowell and his LSUS Pilots took the floor Monday night looking
for revenge of an early season 103-84 loss to Jarvis Christian College.
As soon as the Pilots gained possession of the ball, they put all
memories of the past away and buried the Bulldogs, 89-74.
The Pilots started the game with an offensive attack that put the
Bulldogs down 30-12. LSUS finished the half with a 48-35 lead. Derrick
Rogers and Rico Payne each poured in 16 points while building the
13 point halftime deficit.
In the second half, LSUS continued to dominate with their home court
advantage. The Bulldogs could only manage to creep within 9 points,
the smallest point margin since early in the first half. The Pilots
offense was led by junior guard, Justin Collins who finished with
11 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. Payne ended the game with 24
points, followed by Rogers with 20. Derrick Sowell and Travis Cash
rounded the well-balanced Pilot attack with 31 combined points.
LSUS has now improved its record to 6-4 on the season, 2-0 at home,
and are in action at the LSUS gym Friday. The Pilots begin their
Gulf Coast Athletic Conference schedule by hosting the Xavier University
(New Orleans) Gold Rush at 7 p.m.
