to try ‘Mars Star Party’ again
09/11/03
The
LSUS Physics Department will try its “Mars Star Party”
again Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 p.m. (weather permitting) on the grass
between the Science Building and Administration Building on the
LSUS campus. Uncooperative weather “clouded out” the
previous attempt two weeks earlier.
“With
a little help from our friends, students and especially the weather,”
says Dr. Cindy Sisson, associate professor of physics and chair
of the Chemistry/Physics Department, “we’ll have several
telescopes set up for public viewing of Mars. This will be three
weeks after Earth and Mars had their closest encounter in 60,000
years, but Mars should still be a spectacular sight as it rises
into view.”
On
hand for the party will be new LSUS faculty member Dr. Laura Whitlock,
an astrophysicist who worked for a number of years at NASA.
Ample
free parking is available in the lots south of the Administration
and Science buildings. LSUS is located between Youree Drive and
East Kings Highway south of Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in southeast
Shreveport.
