| LSUS
to throw ‘Mars Star Party’
08/29/03
The LSUS Physics
Department is throwing a “Mars Star Party” Tuesday from
9:30 to 11 p.m. (weather permitting) on the grass between the Science
Building and Administration Building on the LSUS campus.
“With
a little help from our friends and students,” says Dr. Cindy
Sisson, associate professor of physics and chair of the Chemistry/Physics
Department, “we’ll have several telescopes set up for
public viewing of Mars. This will be only 8 days after Earth and
Mars had their closest encounter in 60,000 years, so Mars should
still be a spectacular sight as it rises into view.”
On hand for
the party will be new LSUS faculty member Dr. Laura Whitlock, an
astrophysicist who worked for a number of years at NASA.
Ample parking
is available in the lots south of the Administration and Science
buildings.
