LSUS
computer science students Lisa Shoemake and Sean Lerchie, both of
Shreveport, have earned the Microsoft Certified Application Developer
designation though the LSUS Microsoft Academy.
The
certification provides industry recognition for professional developers
who build powerful applications using Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
and Web services. It was created in response to industry demand
for a certification that allows developers to show they have the
skills necessary to successfully implement functional specifications
and build, deploy, and maintain Windows and Web applications.
With
the continued demand for skilled workers across the U.S. and in
the local business community, the LSUS Computer Science Department
and Division of Continuing Education are offering a full career
development solution that enables students to build successful careers
with 21st-Century skills in addition to a college degree.
As
a member of the Microsoft IT Academy Program, LSUS offers basic
through advanced information technology training designed to fit
the diverse needs of its students. From desktop skills essential
for today’s work force, to networking and programming skills
for IT professionals, students are empowered to realize their potential
with the skills gained on Microsoft technologies.
According
to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections 2000-01,
eight of the 10 fastest growing occupations are computer-related.
Microsoft certifications, including Microsoft Office Specialist,
Microsoft Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer,
and Microsoft Certified Application Developer are highly valued
credentials used by employers in hiring and promotion decisions.
As a Microsoft IT Academy Program member school, LSUS is a premier
provider of courses that lead to these certifications or academic
degrees.
“The
Microsoft IT Academy Program ensures that every student has the
opportunity to participate in our technology-driven economy,”
said Jeff Key, an LSUS computer science instructor and Microsoft
Certified Trainer with MCAD certification. “Students gain
valuable skills, degrees and certifications that lead to more profitable
and rewarding career options. And nothing matches the self-confidence
gained from achieving personal and professional goals.”
The
program helps LSUS to be an innovative IT education leader. It offers
faculty training, early access to Microsoft’s newest technologies,
roadmaps to student careers, Microsoft courseware and student discounts
that enable LSUS to fuel the employability and productivity of the
local work force, while expanding students’ career opportunities.
