course to cover
leadership for minority nonprofits
06/01/03
The
LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public Policy, in partnership
with Service Connection, is offering “Leadership for Minority
Nonprofit Organizations,” the third course in the four-part
Nonprofit Colloquium Series.
The course, presented by Dr. Jennifer A. Wade, will be conducted
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, July 24, on the third floor of
the LSUS Noel Memorial Library. Wade is an assistant professor of
nonprofit and public management at the University of Colorado at
Denver’s Graduate School of Public Affairs.
Within the United States, efforts to improve the social, economic
and political condition of minorities has been a direct result of
the leadership provided by nonprofit organizations that have anchored
their mission within minority communities. This exploratory seminar
will examine the concept of leadership, along with different leadership
models, as applied to minority based nonprofit organizations. This
seminar is an effort to understand how nonprofit organizations can
increase their organizational capacity – staff and resources,
for example – as they embark upon creating, improving and/or
sustaining their organizations over the next decade.
Wade received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American government from
Wesleyan University (Conn.) and master’s and doctoral degrees
in public administration from the University of Georgia. She serves
on the board of directors of the Association for Research on Nonprofit
Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) and the Colorado Resource
Center.
The final installment of the Nonprofit Colloquium Series, “Teambuilding,”
presented by Ann Simmons, will be Thursday, Sept. 25.
The registration fee for each course is $15, which includes a box
lunch and course materials.
