LSUS graduates 227 students in Spring Commencement 05/20/03

Mary Pellie Johnson Ascol and Kristen Ruth Bass, both of Shreveport, and Jennifer Lynn Knafla, of Benton, were the top LSUS spring graduates with perfect 4.0 cumulative grade-point averages. The three were among 227 LSUS students from six state and three Canadian provinces to receive degrees at Spring Commencement Exercises May 14 at Expo Hall in Shreveport.

The gold cords of an honor graduate were worn by 27 of the students, six graduating summa cum laude (3.9 to 4.0 grade-point average), 12, magna cum laude (3.7 to 3.89 GPA) and 11 cum laude (3.5 to 3.69 GPA). (All honor graduates are identified in the listings below.)

The LSUS College of Liberal Arts had the highest number of graduates with 69, followed by the College of Education and Human Development with 66, the College of Business Administration with 52 and the College of Sciences with 40. Undergraduate degrees were awarded to 184 of the students, while the other 43 received graduate level degrees, including Master of Business Administration (8); Master of Education (22); Specialist in School Psychology (4), and Master of Science (9).

The graduates came to LSUS from six state, including Florida, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, and three Canadian Provinces, Alberta, British Columbia and New Brunswick. Louisiana graduates from outside Northwest Louisiana came from Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Eunice, Lafayette, Monroe, New Orleans, Tallulah and Westlake.
