‘College
Kids’ offers child care to LSUS night class students 12/16/02
“College
Kids,” a child and youth enhancement program for children
of LSUS students, will be offered for the spring semester beginning
Jan. 13.
The program,
run by the LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public Policy,
will operate from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
when classes are in session. Children 5 to 11 years old are eligible,
and the cost is $15 per child per night. Students may sign up their
children for one, two or three nights a week. Regardless of the
number of nights, pre-registration is required and there is a maximum
of 15 children per night.
The program
is arranged in workstations for the children. The workstations include
tutorials in reading and math, homework, activity and art. Activities
include books, puzzles and games, while coloring, painting and drawing
make up the art workstation. Each child visits each workstation
during the four-hour session. In the final hour of the session,
a video is shown to all the children. At that time, the children
are able to lie down, watch the video and, if they wish, fall asleep.
The program
is being offered through the Division of Continuing Education and
Public Service. For more information, contact Amanda Joy Bell in
the Institute at 318-795-4262.
