LSUS instructor receives 2002 Faculty Fellowship
Award 12/03/02
Kenna M. Franklin,
an instructor in sociology, has been selected to receive the 2002
Faculty Fellowship Award sponsored by the LSUS International Lincoln
Center for American Studies.
Franklin, who has been
a member of the LSUS faculty since 1990, submitted a proposal titled,
“Developing Sociology and Social Welfare within American Studies.”
Earlier this year, she was voted one of the top 20 faculty members
at LSUS. Governor Mike Foster has appointed her to the Louisiana
Board of Social Work Examiners. She received a Master of Science
degree from the University of Michigan.
Designed as the premier
academic honor awarded at LSUS, the International Lincoln Center’s
annual award recognized the achievement of the university’s
faculty. The award also encourages contributions to the development
of the center’s year-round award-winning components: the Abraham
Lincoln Distinguished Lecture Series, the Washington Semester –
a six-week academic experience conducted each May, the first of
its kind in the South and the least expensive in the nation –
and the triennial presidential conference series.
In 2003, the center’s
presidential conference series will feature Thomas Jefferson with
a Lincoln component. The conference is an official event of the
Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial celebration.
