Institute, sheriff
partner for firearms training 11/07/01
The Louisiana
Community Policing Institute, part of the LSU in Shreveport system,
has formed a partnership with the Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office
to provide firearms training for law enforcement officers in the
northern part of Louisiana.
This training will use the JSS3000 shooting simulator, a state-of-the-art
computerized system that places officers in shot-dont
shoot situations. Through different scenarios, officers must
make split-second decisions that may or may not involve the use
of deadly force.
The various simulations place officers in real-time situations in
which they have to react to a scene as it unfolds. This provides
a much more realistic approach to firearms training than officers
typically receive under static firing range conditions. The computer
also keeps a log of the officers reactions, providing data
for critiques.
The simulator is housed at the Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office
Training Center at 15639 Hwy. 1 in the southeastern corner of the
parish. The agencys director of training will schedule law
officers use of the equipment.
For more information about the simulator, contact the Louisiana
Community Policing Institute at 318-798-4177 or 1-888-283-0966.
To schedule a session using the simulator, call the training center
at 318-797-1935.
