Tolkien book
topic of LSUS discussion 10-31-01
J.
R. R. Tolkiens Lord of the Rings will be the topic
of an informal coffeehouse discussion on the LSU in Shreveport campus
Friday (Nov. 9). The discussion, sponsored by the Pilots Cru
- the LSUS campus chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ - and the
Baptist Collegiate Ministry, will be led by Dr. Ralph Wood, of Baylor
University.
The 1 p.m. bring-your-own-lunch
session, Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings:
A Book for Our Time of Terror, will be in the Caddo-Bossier
Room of the LSUS University Center.
British readers recently named Lord of the Rings the
most important book of the 20th Century. Despite critics protests
that only children and immature readers can admire Tolkiens
most famous work, thousands of thoughtful adults are eagerly anticipating
the first Lord of the Rings film to be released in December.
Wood is a native of Cass County, Texas, and earned bachelors
and masters degrees in English from East Texas State University.
He earned a second masters degree and a doctorate at the Divinity
School of the University of Chicago. He was a member of the faculties
at Wake Forest University and Samford University before becoming
a professor of theology and literature at Baylor.
