Former and Current
Graphic Arts Students And Graduates Produce Award Winning Work
The graduates
of the LSUS Graphics Arts program have gained a strong reputation
for being well trained and creative graphic artists under the guidance
of Jason Mackowiak, assistant professor in the Department of Fine
Arts.
LSUS graduates
and current art majors made their mark at
this years annual Shreveport/Bossier Advertising Awards (Addys),
held in Bossier City. The Addy Awards - in their 38th year - are
given to recognize outstanding and creative works in media.
Former and current
LSUS students walked away with 12 awards including four bronze,
five silver and three gold.
Students,
with the guidance of their instructors, selected designs they had
done during the semester to enter in the show, said Mackowiak.
LSUS was one
of only two regional universities with student Addy winners. Recipients
are eligible to submit their winning designs at the national level.
Michaelann Sumter, who won three awards, is now a graphics artist
designer for the Gremmillion and Pou Advertising Agency.
The graphics
program at LSUS helped fully prepare me for a career in graphic
design, said Sumter. The newly updated program offers
every course necessary to enter the field of graphic design.
She continued,
The addition of the graphics professor, Jason Mackowiak, has
tremendously helped out. I am thankful to have studied under him.
He guided me in the direction I needed to be in and he has great
concern for each individual student.
