Rush
appointed to Blue Ribbon Commission 10-25-01
Dr. Gary Rush,
PreK-16+ coordinator at LSU in Shreveport, was recently appointed
to Louisianas Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence.
The commission
functioned during 1999-2001 as the Blue Ribbon Commission for Teacher
Quality. The members of that group made many decisions regarding
changes in teacher education. The charge for the current commission
members is to study program changes being made; analyze methods
of collecting data to be used by legislators, educators, and other
service providers; identify questions that need to be answered about
PreK-16 education in Louisiana through the alignment of data bases,
and identify other issues that need to be addressed to better align
PreK-16+ education in the sate.
The Blue Ribbon
Commission on Educational Excellence consists of members of the
Board of Regents, Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, state
representatives and senators, members of the teaching profession
from kindergarten through higher education, and community members.
Frances T. Henry, of the Board of Regents, chairs the commission.
Glenny Lee Buquet, of the BESE, is vice chairperson.
Rush formerly
served as dean of the College of Education and associate vice-chancellor
of academic affairs at LSU in Shreveport. He has served for more
than 40 years as a teacher, principal, college teacher, and administrator
in several southern states, and has participated actively in redesign
work in Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina.
