Michael H. Woods
Named Distinguished Alumnus of the Year 10/24/01
The LSUS Alumni
Association presented Michael H. Woods with the Distinguished Alumnus
of the Year Award during commencement ceremonies held in May. The
award honors LSUS graduates who have distinguished themselves through
service to the university and their communities. Last years
honoree was Margaret W. Kinsey, class of 1984.
Woods, who was
born and raised in Shreveport, was one of the first students from
LSUS to receive a four-year degree when he graduated in general
studies in 1975. He also received a bachelors degree in Business
Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1977, a law degree
from the LSU Law Center in 1980, and a masters degree in Environmental
Science from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1999.
He has been
an important contributor to the success of the university for many
years. Woods currently serves on the LSUS Foundations Board
of Directors, the LSUS Chancellors Community Advisory Council
and chaired the Steering Committee for the 3rd Annual LSUS RiverBend
Revue, held September 12, 2001, which presented the Pilot of the
Year award. He is a member of the LSUS Alumni Association Board
of Directors and the LSUS Athletic Committee as well as teaching
an administrative law course in the LSUS Master of Human Services
Administration program.
Mike was appointed
by Governor Foster to the Board of Trustees of the Louisiana System
of Colleges and Universities, which oversees eight universities
including Louisiana Tech, University of Louisiana Monroe, and Grambling
State University.
He contributes
a leading role in community affairs and has served as past president
of the Executive Committee for the Red Cross, the YMCA, Holiday
in Dixie, and the Norwela Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
He currently serves on the Southern Region Board of the Boy Scouts
of America and is the past Southern Region President. He also serves
on the National Board for American Humanics, Inc.
Active in his
familys oil and gas business, he is married to Tracie Woods
and is the father of four children. His parents are the late Dalton
and Sugar Woods, who are also distinguished community leaders.
