| Red
Cross activates LSUS emergency shelter
10/02/02
The Northwest
Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross is activating the LSUS
emergency shelter at 4:30 p.m. today for South Louisiana evacuees.
The following statement may be used in connection with that activation.
If attribution is appropriate, Gregg Trusty, LSUS director of media
and public relations, may be quoted or paraphrased:
LSUS is a designated
emergency shelter for the Red Cross. The gymnasium in the Health
and Physical Education Building is the primary area for the emergency
shelter, and the building’s physical facilities such as locker
rooms and showers are also available to evacuees. The Northwest
Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross provides cots and related
provisions.
This is another
example of the university forming a community partnership where
it makes sense to do so. We have an excellent facility for short-term
and long-term emergency sheltering, and we are pleased to make it
available to the Red Cross to help them make life a little easier
for people in need.
