The Louisiana
Community Policing Institute Offers Free Classes For Community Members
and Law Enforcement Officers 09/25/01
Shreveport,
La. Since its inception in 1997, the Louisiana Community
Policing Institute (L.C.P.I.), a department of Louisiana State University
in Shreveport's Continuing Education Division, has provided training
to thousands of community members and law enforcement officers throughout
the state. This program is funded by the United States Department
of Justice and classes are free of charge.
Community Oriented Policing is proactive, solutions-based, and
community driven. It occurs when a law enforcement agency and law
abiding citizens work together to: Arrest offenders, Prevent
crime, Solve on-going problems, Develop partnerships, and Invest
in the future of neighborhoods.

Predominant
Aggressor & Evidence Gathering in Domestic Violence
Predominant Aggressor addresses legal issues related
to identifying the predominant aggressor for the purpose of
reducing domestic violence and dual/mutual arrest.
Evidence Gathering discusses the evidentiary value of a domestic
violence crime scene as well as enhancing skills for initial
and follow-up ssessments for evidence based prosecution of the
offender. |

The objective of this module is to have participants improve
their communication skills through awareness and practice. These
skills are vital to effective policing and community partnership

Improving
Media Relations
Controlling the issue and the debate are very important when
dealing with the public and the media. This course is designed
to help identify what to say, how to say it, and when to say
it. Participants will learn how to develop a plan that frames
the issues, learn effective ways to make an opponent play ball
on their own field, and learn how to stick to the plan. |
