LSUS Recreational Sports Flag Football Champions will compete
against their respective Centenary College Recreational Sports
Flag Football Champions for the title of “Inner City” Football

Two games will feature championship contests for the titles in

announced the establishment of six new endowments totaling more
than $2 million Thursday at its annual LSUS Foundation Fall Appreciation
Dinner. The total includes one new $1 million endowed chair and

seeking shelter, the American Red Cross and LSUS are asking for
assistance from the community. In addition to its primary Emergency

Red Cross has now opened another shelter at Hirsch Coliseum at
the Louisiana State Fairgrounds. The Northwest Louisiana Veterinary
Association and the Humane Society have established pet centers
adjacent to both the LSUS and Hirsch shelters.

of American Farm Women,” an exhibit documenting the historic
role of women in American agriculture, will open on Sunday (May

associate professor of English, who will draw upon his expertise
in storytelling and folklore to both entertain and educate the

will host the first of two Luncheon Forums for Economic Development
Thursday (April 28) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Caddo/Bossier

underwritten by the Northwest Louisiana Partnership for Innovation
(NLPI), a new CERT-led initiative funded by the National Science
Foundation.

sees staff changes, movement

Office of University Development at LSUS has seen some recent
staff changes in the form of promotions, additions and title
changes. Glenda C. Erwin, formerly interim vice chancellor for
university development, has been named vice chancellor for university
development by LSUS Chancellor Vincent J. Marsala, who also announced
the promotion of Stuart Parkerson from director of annual support
to associate vice chancellor for university development.

to deliver LSUS commencement address May 18

Power Company, will deliver the commencement address at LSUS

Lincoln Center awards Williamsburg fellowships

Caddo Parish middle schools have been awarded the equivalent
of $3,000 fellowships each from the LSUS International Lincoln
Center for American Studies to attend the Summer Teacher Institute
at Colonial Williamsburg July 6-13. The program is made possible
by a grant from the Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier.

books dating back to a translation of Homer’s “Odyssey” printed
in 1669 are on display until May 21 on the third floor of the
Noel Memorial Library on the LSUS campus. The exhibit is presented

title this year. Four graduate student, 10 seniors and eight

Pilots guard Fredericko Payne, a 5-10 junior from Dubach, has
been named an NAIA First Team All-America. The leading scorer
in the nation averaging 25 points a game and third in the nation
in steals with 3 per game, “Rico” led the Pilots
to a 27-9 record and a first-ever trip to the NAIA National Championship
Tournament, where they lost to the eventual national champion,
John Brown University, in the Sweet Sixteen.

of kinesiology and health science and director of the USA Weightlifting
Development Center at LSUS, has been named one of three finalists
for the United States Olympic Committee’s “Doc”
Counsilman Science Award. The USOC also announced the finalists
for its National, Developmental and Volunteer Coach of the Year
honors to be presented May 1 at the USOC Coach of the Year Recognition
Banquet at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

of winners in the 2005 Region I Social Studies Fair held March 10
in the University Center on the LSUS campus. Fair co-chairs Drs.
Keitha Rogers and Debbie Williams, both assistant professors of

between the individual school level and the statewide contest.

Department will hold open auditions from 6-8 p.m. March 28-30 in
the University Center Theater for its stage production of “Five
Women Wearing the Same Dress,” a comedy by Alan Ball, creator
of “Six Feet Under” and author of “American Beauty.”
The play will be directed by Mary G. “Jorji” Jarzabek,
an LSUS communications instructor, who said the auditions are to
cast four female roles and one male role.

professor receives Fulbright Grant for Russian work

Sereg, an LSUS assistant professor of public relations, has received
a 2005 Fulbright Grant that will take him to the far reaches of
Northeastern Russia this spring. The internationally recognized
authority on Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) development and
sustainability will travel to the Central Siberian city of Barnaul
where he will assist a Russian university in developing its academic
program in mass communication and public relations.

Salzman, author and cellist, will headline the annual Authors in
April program benefiting the LSUS Pioneer Heritage Center. Salzman,
the author of the novels The Laughing Sutra, and The Soloist, which
was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for fiction,
will speak at the Authors in April luncheon at Shreveport Country
Club Saturday, April 9.
