“College Kids,” a child and youth enhancement program for children of LSUS students, will be offered for the spring semester beginning Jan. 13.

The 2003 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges will include the names of 13 LSUS students who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders.

Two Simons-Lincove Scholarships in International Studies will be awarded on December 5, 2002 11/14/02
Two Simons-Lincove Scholarships in International Studies will be awarded on December 5, 2002, in a ceremony on the third floor of the Noel Memorial Library. The deadline for submitting an application to Dr. Megan Conway for the two $750 scholarships is November 21. Recipients will be selected by faculty members in the Department of Fine Arts, Foreign Languages and Humanities.

LSUS receives another $400,000 from NSF for scholarships 11/12/02
LSUS has been awarded a second $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to fund scholarships for qualified students who want to pursue degrees in computer science, mathematics and engineering.

Dr. Thomas A. Holme, associate professor of chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will discuss “Chemistry, Live in Your Living Room” at the American Chemical Society meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Don’s Seafood & Steak House.

LSUS to host ‘Discovery Day’ for high school students 10/21/02
High school students can learn about LSUS, tour the campus and meet faculty Saturday, Nov. 2, when LSUS hosts a Discovery Day from 3 to 6 p.m.

NIH director to keynote local conference 10/17/02
James Cassatt, a division director at the National Institutes of Health, will be the keynote speaker at the first CERT Biomedical Informatics Conference Nov. 5.

Two professorships established at LSUS 08/28/02
Dr. E. Joseph Savoie, Louisiana commissioner of higher education, presented two $40,000 checks representing the state Board of Regents’ matching funds for two endowed professorships at LSUS.

Bridger named LSUS College of Education dean 08/13/02
Dr. Gale Bridger, whose formal affiliation with LSUS began in 1975, was named dean of the College of Education, effective Aug. 1. The appointment marks the second time in eight years she has been asked to serve as dean of the college.

Basic business education program scheduled 07/25/02
The Basic Business Education Program, a 12-week entrepreneurial training program, will be offered from Sept. 3 to Dec. 3. The program, now in its 16th year, is co-sponsored by the LSUS Small Business Development Center, the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce and the City of Shreveport.

56 Caddo-Bossier students complete LaPREP 07/22/02
A group of middle school students from throughout Caddo and Bossier parishes are better prepared to complete a college degree in math, science or engineering because of their participation in the 11th Annual Louisiana Preparatory Program at LSU in Shreveport. The 56 students were honored this afternoon at an awards ceremony, for which U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Carl Stewart was the featured speaker.

LSUS Today airs tomorrow morning 06/10/02
The June edition of LSUS Today features the International Lincoln Center and the Division of Continuing Education and Public Service. The show will air three times beginning tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock on KPXJ-TV -- PAX 21. Set your VCR tonight (even if you think you'll be home tomorrow -- interruptions happen) to tape the show. KPXJ is on Channel 21 (airwaves) and Channel 10 on Time-Warner Cable.

Three Caddo Parish middle school teachers have been selected for full fellowships from the LSUS International Lincoln Center for American Studies to attend the Colonial Williamsburg Summer Teacher Institute.

LSUS to play for GCAC championship at 6 p.m. Friday 05/03/02
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The LSUS Pilots rolled to the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference baseball tournament championship game by pounding the Loyola University Wolfpack 17-4 Thursday. In their first-round game Wednesday, the Pilots downed GCAC regular-season champion William Carey College 8-5.

LSUS draws William Carey first in GCAC tournament 04/29/02
NEW ORLEANS – The LSUS Pilots rumbled in to the Crescent City Friday with still a hint of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference title wafting in the air. The Loyola University Wolfpack, however, blew the faint aroma away by taking two of the three weekend games, leaving three teams to share second place in the conference.

LSUS takes 2 of 3 from Mobile, closes to within 1 of GCAC lead 04/21/02
The LSUS Pilots pulled within one game of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference lead by taking two of three games from the University of Mobile Friday and Saturday. In the process, the Pilots assured themselves of a spot in the conference tournament.

The LSUS Pilots, on a 10-game winning streak overall and a seven-game streak in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, pulled within two games of the conference lead last weekend by pounding Hattiesburg, Mississippi’s William Carey College three times at LSUS by a total of 17 runs.

LSUS to induct 12 into business honor society 04/08/02
Only a select few are called "The Best in Business," and 12 LSUS College of Business Administration students have earned the title this year. The elite dozen - two graduate students, six seniors and four juniors - will be inducted into the LSUS chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB (the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) International.

LSUS honor society to initiate 35 Sunday 3/14/02
Three LSU in Shreveport faculty members and 32 students will be initiated into the local university’s chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Assembly Room of the Noel Memorial Library. The students include five graduate students, 13 seniors and 14 juniors.

Pilots record two shutouts; today's games rained out 02/05/02
The LSUS Pilots left their first regular season baseball opponent off the scoreboard Saturday (Feb. 2) in recording back-to-back shutouts -- 2-0 and 10-0 -- against Texas College.

LSUS to host national championships 01/31/02
Top weightlifters from around the country will be on the LSU in Shreveport campus Saturday and Sunday competing in two national meets. The U.S. Weightlifting Development Center at LSUS will host the USA Weightlifting National Age 23 and Under Championships and the National Collegiate Championships.

Regents remind parents of new college admission standards 1/24/02
BATON ROUGE -- The Board of Regents for higher education this week is sending almost 60,000 letters to parents of 9th grade students around the state, reminding them that their sons and daughters will be the first class to be affected by the Regents' new college admissions standards that become effective 2005.

Regents terminate low-completer academic programs 1/24/02
BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Board of Regents for higher education today (Thursday, Jan. 24) terminated 15 low-enrollment degree and certificate programs at six state colleges and universities as part of the board’s comprehensive statewide academic review.

“Export/Import Seminars,” intensive seminars on international trade, are scheduled for Feb. 19-21 at the LSUS Small Business Development Center. The seminars will be presented by the Louisiana International Trade Center of the University of New Orleans. Cost is $60 for one seminar or $120 for two or three seminars.
