The
Louisiana Community Policing Institute, part of the LSU in Shreveport
system, has formed a partnership with the Caddo Parish Sheriffs
Office to provide firearms training for law enforcement officers
in the northern part of Louisiana.

Dr. Helen C.
Taylor, a professor of English at LSU in Shreveport, and director
of its Master of Liberal Arts program, has been selected as the
recipient of the 2001 Faculty Research Award sponsored by the International
Lincoln Center for American Studies. The subject of her proposal
is Integrating the LSUS MLA Program with the International
Lincoln Centers annual Washington, D.C., Mini-Semester.

Tolkien

R. R. Tolkiens Lord of the Rings will be the topic
of an informal coffeehouse discussion on the LSU in Shreveport campus
Friday (Nov. 9). The discussion, sponsored by the Pilots Cru
- the LSUS campus chapter of Campus Crusade for Christ - and the
Baptist Collegiate Ministry, will be led by Dr. Ralph Wood, of Baylor
University.

The 2001-02
LSUS Alumni Association membership campaign will continue to be
part of the university's annual fund appeal. The 2000-01 campaign
provided an opportunity for many alumni to contribute to the Alumni
Endowed Scholarship Fund in addition to paying annual membership
dues. The Alumni Association would like to expand the designated
choice for donations to include other endowed and unrestricted Foundation
funds.

Louisiana Community Policing Institute Offers Free Classes For Community
Members and Law Enforcement Officers

Since
its inception in 1997, the Louisiana Community Policing Institute
(L.C.P.I.), a department of Louisiana State University in Shreveport's
Continuing Education Division, has provided training to thousands
of community members and law enforcement officers throughout the
state. This program is funded by the United States Department of
Justice and classes are free of charge.
