Distinguished Lecture Series
The LSUS Distinguished Lecture Series seeks to attract and promote those lecturers who have demonstrated a clear ability to communicate a genuine knowledge, interest and enthusiasm in an area of study to a general audience. Such distinguished lecturers should have previously received recognition for work in their particular field. They must also possess an established skill in leading and directing group discussions, if the presentation so requires. LSUS distinguished lecturers range across topical areas of interest to students, faculty, and the community and provide opportunities for people who may influence our regional and national reputation to better get to know our University.
Past distinguished lecturers at LSU Shreveport include:
Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, distinguished author and director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City
Doris Kearns Goodwin, Pulitzer Prize winning author and presidential historian
Dr. Kathy Sullivan, former NASA astronaut
Dr. Mario Livio, internationally-known astrophysicist, bestselling author, and popular lecturer
Dr. Jocelyn Bell Burnell, radio astronomer, astrophysicist and co-discoverer of the first radio pulsars with her thesis advisor Antony Hewish, for which he won a Nobel Prize
