State of the U for YOU
September 05, 2013
September 4th was the first "State of the U for YOU" at LSUS. Campus leaders spoke about exciting things LSUS has to offer for the2013-2014 school year as well as plans for the future.
The first speaker was Angel Martin, Director of Student Activities and Recreational Sports, who encouraged students to participate in clubs and attend campus events and activities.
Student Activities Board President Keke Ellis followed and explained the importance of the Student Activities Board, which gives students a voice in planning campus events, provides entertainment, and connects LSUS with the rest of the community.
The next speaker was Student Government Association President Cody King, who described two SGA initiatives: increasing outreach to potential students outside of the Shreveport/Bossier area, and creating a special section at athletic home games for LSUS students to cheer from.
The final speaker was Interim LSUS Chancellor Paul Sisson. Dr. Sisson described some of the major issues that higher education has faced in the state over the last five years, including budget constraints, but assured students that the university has embraced many changes in order to help the university thrive. These changes include LSUS @ccelerated, an increase in online course and degree offerings, our first doctoral degree in Education and Leadership Studies, and partnering with LSU A&M, leading to LSU A&M degrees being offered at LSUS. The Interim Chancellor also spoke about many potential future endeavors, such as a wellness center, an academic success center, and Greek housing on campus.
