President Obama Recognizes LSU Shreveport Graduate
January 13, 2010
President Obama recently honored teachers with awards for excellence in mathematics and science teaching and mentoring, including LSU Shreveport graduate Kendra R. Pullen. She received her Masters in Education Leadership from LSUS in 2008. She is now a fourth grade science teacher at Riverside Elementary School in Shreveport.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are presented each year to exceptional pre-college-level science and math teachers from across the nation.
“The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching is the highest honor I have ever received in my professional career and the highest honor I can imagine receiving as a science teacher,” Pullen said.
The award recipients are chosen by other scientists, mathematicians and educators. The event was held on January 6, 2010 at the White House as a part of Obama’s "Educate to Innovate" campaign.
