Miss LSUS 2019 Crowned

February 21, 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHREVEPORT, LA- On Saturday, February 16, 2019, 10 contestants vied for the title of Miss LSUS 2019. The diverse group of young women competed in several phases including a personal interview, onstage question, lifestyle health and fitness, and evening wear. At the end of the night, Courtney Jackson was crowned Miss LSUS 2019.

Courtney Jackson is a sophomore working toward her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications. On campus, she is involved in Phi Mu Fraternity, Student Government Association, National Society of Leadership and Success, and serves as a New Student Orientation Leader. There are several things Courtney hopes to accomplish during her year of service. “I hope to continue the fantastic efforts started by our previous Miss LSUS,” Jackson said. “My hope is to further engage the community and get other students involved in outreach projects like reading to elementary school students and campus beautification. I want to boost school morale and work with our faculty and students to make our campus an even more positive and safe environment.”

Pearl Merry, the former Miss LSUS, believes that Courtney has a great year ahead of her. Some of Pearl’s favorite contributions to the university were attending several events throughout the LSUS campus and community such as the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, Fall Fest, and Spring Fling, riding in the hot air balloon during the Red River Balloon rally, and participating in the LSUS 50 Years 5K Run. One tradition that Pearl hopes to see continued is visiting and reading to students at elementary schools: “For my last appearance as Miss LSUS, I went to an elementary school and read to some kids. It was such a fun experience! Not to mention seeing the kids’ faces light up; my heart was so happy.” In one final display of her talents, Pearl sang and accompanied herself on the ukulele to the delight of the pageant attendees.

Each member of the queen’s court received a crystal award and flower bouquet provided by LSUS Student Activities Board, as well as a cash prize provided by the LSUS Alumni Association.
