Kirsten Howard, LSU Shreveport junior public relations major, was awarded the William Michelet Honorary Award scholarship by the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL). Howard was presented a $1,000 check at the PRAL Northwest Chapter meeting held June 5 at Robinson Film Center.
“I am really grateful to those that chose me as the recipient of this scholarship. I am incredibly honored to have received the award,” Howard said. “It is amazing to be recognized by such a prestigious group of individuals and to be given an award in honor of an extremely accomplished public relations professional.”
Howard is currently an intern at the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse in Shreveport, La. She works for the student news department on the LSU Shreveport campus and is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society. She is vice president of the LSUS Debate team and competes in the professional division, and she was recently elected SGA President.
“Our local chapter of PRAL is delighted this statewide honor was awarded to a fine student from our area. Kirsten is a standout at LSUS, and PRAL Northwest proudly congratulates her for winning the scholarship,” said Candace Spinks current PRAL-Northwest president.
The William Michelet Honorary Award is annual presented to a full-time, undergraduate student majoring in public relations or journalism. Michelet, founder of PRAL and an LSU professor, gave back to the community through his work in the public relations field. In his honor the award is given to an individual who also exhibits proficiency in the field of public relations and a strong desire to give back to the community.
