LSUS SEES ENROLLMENT INCREASE FOR 2015 FALL SEMESTER

September 25, 2015

More students are choosing LSU Shreveport. The expanding programs in Healthcare, Business, and Graphic Design led the way to an increased growth of 8.4% in enrollment at LSU Shreveport for the Fall 2015 semester. In addition, LSUS has the largest freshman class in three years with growth of over 10% in number of full-time freshmen.

The creative class in Shreveport/Bossier is taking advantage of the digital arts program at LSUS. The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Arts is the only program of its kind in Louisiana and its growth demonstrates the close alignment between community needs and LSUS programs. Most faculty hold the MFA degree and are active in their respective fields, so students are able to learn and experience practical skills for their chosen careers. Students in business and healthcare are also seeing increased opportunities. The in-depth programs, activities, and faculty involvement are designed to give students the ultimate learning environment to grow in their knowledge and abilities to prepare them for the workplace.

"Students are responding to our focus on career preparation and internships," said Chancellor Larry Clark. "Place matters. LSUS being a part of the dynamic Shreveport/Bossier urban community is a great advantage for our students. They greatly benefit from valuable interaction opportunities in the classroom and/or at work with a wide array of organizations and businesses. It is an exciting time to be a part of the LSUS family."

The university has also experienced a large growth in graduate programs. The Master of Health Administration enjoys record enrollment and has increased 149% over the last year. Taking advantage of the partnership between the School of Allied Health at LSUHSC, the Masters in Public Health degree increased 36% over Fall 2014. The top ranked LSUS MBA program has had a 156% increase in student enrollment and the Doctorate in Leadership Studies program has seen an 81% increase in enrollment. As the first doctoral program in the community, it emerged in 2013 thanks to the strong support of the LSUS Foundation and local community leadership. The total number of graduate student enrollment at LSUS is 1,564 for this semester, an increase of 80.39 percent.
