LSUS School of Humanities & Social Sciences Honors Program Approved for Fall 2012
June 27, 2012
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at LSU Shreveport has been approved to offer the first course in a newly-created Honors Program for the fall 2012 semester. The program will consist of a series of interdisciplinary courses.
"The first four courses are designed to substitute for general education courses," explained Dr. Linda Webster, Honors Program coordinator. "For example, the first course will introduce students to college life through film and literature studies that will be a bit off-beat and even off-campus. This course will substitute for the required freshman seminar."
Students will be able to earn a minor in Honors Interdisciplinary Studies through completion of the required course work which can be found online. All courses are team-taught by senior faculty.
In addition to lectures, there will be guest speakers, field trips and events exclusive to the program. An Honors Program Lounge is located on the third floor of Bronson Hall with computer terminals and study areas where students are encouraged to spend time between classes and complete group work.
Students who qualify for the new Guaranteed Scholarships will be sent application materials through the Admissions and Records Office. Any full-time student who wants more information is encouraged to contact Dr. Webster at firstname.lastname@example.org or 318-797-5376.
