LSUS Reaches Milestone Graduate Enrollment

October 27, 2014

Shreveport, LA -- LSU Shreveport is proud to announce that graduate enrollment now totals over one thousand students in the various Graduate Degree Programs offered both online and on campus.   These programs offer opportunities for advanced training and research in all areas of the sciences, social sciences, business and humanities.

LSUS continues to break new ground in the growing area of graduate studies, most recently by offering a new 100% online Master of Business Administration (MBA) and by establishing the Doctor of Education in Leadership Studies, the first doctoral program on campus.  "We are all so happy to see LSUS hit this milestone graduate enrollment," said Dr. Paul Sisson, Dean of Graduate Studies and Associate Vice Chancellor for Sponsored Research. "It signifies in the best possible way that LSUS is fulfilling its promise to be our region's premier senior public university.  As happy as we are to celebrate this achievement, we actually expect to set new enrollment records for a long time to come."

Graduate study is much more than a continuation of undergraduate work. It provides students the opportunity to become investigators in special fields of learning, to broaden their professional and cultural background, and to improve their professional skills and competence. With this in mind, Louisiana State University Shreveport has aspired to find new ways to educate their students.  In recent years, technology has proved to be an innovative way for LSUS to deliver quality education for their students online.

To help those who have full time commitments (jobs, families, etc), LSUS took the initiative to create online graduate programs that can be completed in as little as one year. Instead of being tied to a classroom, students from around the world can take courses in locations and at times that are best-suited to them. This method has proved successful in various graduate programs, and has allowed graduate studies at LSUS to reach these record breaking numbers.

Even though fully-online degree programs are a relatively recent addition at LSUS, they have already achieved recognition nationwide. LSUS is ranked 20th in the article "The 25 Best Online Master of Healthcare Administration Degree Programs" by The BestSchools.org. The milestone is a great accomplishment for LSUS, and this is just the beginning for a school that is always on the edge of innovative ideas and devotion to its students.

Louisiana State University in Shreveport is a public university proudly serving the Shreveport-Bossier educational community with more than 20 undergraduate degree programs, a dozen master's degree programs (including the new online MBA), and a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership Studies, as well as over 70 student organizations.  LSUS is a member of the LSU System, and provides a number of centers and institutes that serve as valuable economic development and educational resources to the community, as well as to our students.
