July 25, 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHREVEPORT, LA-Dr. Peter Siska will be joining the LSUS team as the new Dean of College of Arts and Sciences, effective August 1st. Dr. Siska is currently a Professor of Geography in the Department of Ecochemistry and Radiology at the University of St. Cyril and Methodius, Slovakia.

A native of Slovakia, Dr. Siska earned his PhD in Geographic Information Systems from Texas A&M University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Geography from Komensky University, Bratislava, Slovak Republic. In his current role, Dr. Siska worked on developing St. Cyril and Methodius’s new Geospatial Center, and focused on global sustainable development and ecology. He has experience in fundraising, along with the development and implementation of university programs.

Dr. Siska has also served as the Head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at Liverpool Hope University at Liverpool in the United Kingdom. There he oversaw the development of the Dual International Master’s Degree program in cooperation with the Catholic University in Lille, France, which allows postgraduate students from England and France the opportunity to receive degrees from two international universities.

In addition to his leadership and administrative efforts, Dr. Siska brings a wealth of research experience and insight. One of his projects involved studying horizontal, vertical and temporal migration of heavy toxic metals between soil, plants and mammals in the Western Slovakia. This research has had positive impact on private agricultural corporations and environmental planning in Slovakia.

“The search committee identified a number of exceptional applicants for the dean position,” said Dr. Nancy Jordan, Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. “I’m thrilled we’re able to recruit Dr. Siska to serve as our next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a proven leader and committed to enhancing teaching and research across the college.”

Moving to this region is a bit of a homecoming for Dr. Siska, as he spent a number of years working in at Stephen F. Austin University and Texas A&M University. Dr. Siska is a member of the Association of American Geographers and the Society of American Foresters. In 2004, he won the Tennessee Geographic Information Council Award for Data Integration in GIS and Spatial Analysis.

“The true quality of education is measured by student achievement,” said Dr. Siska. “Our goal at the College of Arts and Sciences at LSUS will be to guide our students towards success while preparing them for future global challenges.”
