LSUS DEBATE TEAM WINS SECOND TOURNAMENT OF SEASON BY DOMINATING PRELIM PERFORMANCE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(MONTICELLO, AR) The LSU Shreveport Debate team won its second tournament of the year by dominating the competition with a 71.9 percent winning percentage in its preliminary rounds. The team advanced 10 of its 16 entries into the elimination rounds with 3 of those making it to their respective division final rounds.

LSUS advanced both of its entries in the team division. After successful quarterfinal matches, LSUS was forced to advance its team of Jerry McCauley and Dominic Mercer over teammates James Bohn and Hannah Ross in the semifinal round. The McCauley/Mercer team then lost a very close 2-1 decision in the final round to Drury University.

In the individual debates, Jerry McCauley followed up his team performance by making it to the final round in the varsity division. Unfortunately, McCauley lost again to a member of Drury University’s team. LSUS’s Austin Lemoine also made it to Finals in the Professional division, losing on another close 2-1 decision.

Overall for the 2018-2019 season, the LSUS debate team has competed in 260 rounds winning 63.8% overall. The team struggled in elimination rounds at its first tournament, but looks to have turned it around this past weekend.

Next up for the LSUS debate team will be hosting its annual Red River Classic Forensic tournament this weekend October 12-14.
