LSUS DEBATE TEAM AND INDIVIDUALS RANK HIGH IN NATIONAL STANDINGS

November 29, 2017

The International Public Debate Association’s rankings report has LSU Shreveport’s Debate Team in 2nd place nearly halfway into the competitive season. Additionally, it has individual members of the team ranked high among competitors in their respective divisions. The rankings reflect points earned through competition at this point in the season. There are still a lot of tournaments left and the LSUS team plans an aggressive travel schedule for the Spring.

  • Austin Lemoine, a junior General Business Administration major, is currently ranked 1st in the Junior Varsity Division.
  • Julian Lawrence, a senior English major who finished the 2016-2017 season ranked 2nd in the Professional Division, is currently ranked 2nd place this season.
  • Jakob Volcheck, a junior History major, is currently tied for 3rd in the Varsity Division.
  • The team of Hannah Ross, a sophomore Chemistry major, and Fatimah Smith, a senior History major, are tied for 8th in the Team Division.
  • Ethan Arbuckle, a freshman Management and Administration major, is currently tied for 11th in the Novice Division.

The LSUS Debate Team is looking forward to adding to its strength by recruiting a current top 5 competitor in the Novice Division to join the team in the Spring. The debate season ends with the IPDA National Championships hosted by Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington in late March.
