LSUS and KTBS/KPXJ CW 21 to Sponsor This Year's Northwest Louisiana Regional Spelling Bee Saturday, March 17 in University Center Theater  

SHREVEPORT--Area school students are diligently preparing for the upcoming Northwest Louisiana Regional Spelling Bee, which is being sponsored this year for the first time by LSU in Shreveport.  

Students who have won the Spelling Bees at their schools will compete on the regional level in the contest. The winner goes on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.  Twenty-two students from among 28 schools in the region will compete at the regional level.  

LSUS Chancellor Larry Clark and KTBS-TV anchor/reporter T.W. Starr will welcome the students, parents, teachers and guests present for the event, and Starr will serve as moderator. Two LSUS English professors, Dr. Thomas Dubose and Dr. Jason Rachal, will serve as pronouncer and recorder, respectively.  

Judges will be Jazmin J. Jernigan of A.I. Studio, Callie Dean, Education and Community Engagement manager for the Shreveport Symphony, and Robin Jones of the Bossier Arts Council.  

The Spelling Bee will be held throughout the morning. An edited version will air later that day from 4 to 6 p.m. on KPXJ CW 21.
