LSU Shreveport to Host Veterans Day Program
October 29, 2013
LSU Shreveport has again been named as a Military Friendly School for 2014! In honor of those who have served, LSUS will host its annual Veterans Day commemorative program on Monday, November 11, at 11 a.m. at the flagpole in the center of campus.
The program, dedicated to all prisoners of war and those still missing in action, will feature Retired Army Maj. Ronald Chatelain as the guest speaker. Hailed as one of the nation's highest decorated veterans of the Vietnam War and acknowledged as the most decorated living veteran in the state of Louisiana, Major Chatelain served two tours in Vietnam. His medals include the Army's second highest award of Valor, the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star with "V" device and Oak Leaf Cluster, five Purple Heart medals (2 awarded, 3 pending) and the Army Achievement medal also with "V" device. Major Chatelain resides in Shreveport, LA, with his wife, Ann.
LSUS is also proud to participate in Operation Support Our Troops. Operation Support Our Troops is a non-profit organization that sends care packages to deployed and wounded troops. Members of the LSUS community are encouraged to drop donations the week of the event at various points across campus in the library, the Administration Building, the Admissions and Records Office (ADM 168), and the University Center, as well as at the Veterans Day program.
