November 02, 2012
LSU Shreveport will host its annual Veterans Day commemorative program on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the flagpole in the center of campus.
The program will feature LSU Shreveport Associate Professor of History Dr. Gary Joiner as the guest speaker. Dr. Joiner is a cartographer and the author or editor of 12 books including "Shiloh and the Western Campaign of 1862," "One Damn Blunder from Beginning to End: The Red River Campaign in 1864," "Through the Howling Wilderness: The Red River Campaign and Union Failure in 1864," "Red River Steamboats," and "Mr. Lincoln's Brown Water Navy: Mississippi Squadron." The program will also feature the posting of the colors by the Barksdale Honor Guard, the playing of the national anthem by Arther Chatman, and a reading of the traditional poem "In Flanders Field."
LSUS is also proud to participate in Operation Support Our Troops. Operation Support Our Troops is a non-profit organization that sends care packages to deployed and wounded troops. Members of the LSUS community are encouraged to drop donations the week of the event at various points across campus in the library, the Administration Building, the Admissions and Records Office (ADM 168), and the University Center, as well as at the Veterans Day program.
