LSU Shreveport to Host Veteran’s Day Program
November 03, 2011LSU Shreveport will host its second annual Veteran's Day commemorative program on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the flag pole in the center of campus.
The program will feature retired Air Force Lt. Col. Charlie Morgan as guest speaker. Lt. Col. Morgan's career spans three decades as an aircrew member in the SR-71 and the B-52. The program will also feature the playing of the national anthem by Arther Chatman and a reading of the traditional poem "In Flanders Field."
As a special part of the program, LSUS students, faculty and staff will honor fallen service members by reading the names of Louisiana residents killed while defending our freedom since September 11, 2001. LSUS will join 173 colleges and universities from all 50 states in honoring fallen service members.
At the conclusion of the program attendants are invited to the third floor of the Noel Memorial Library for a special viewing of military memorabilia. An exhibit of local veterans-related photographs and collectables will be on display in the Atrium along with the Seymour Many and Graham Leary Collections of military memorabilia. LSUS Archives and Special Collections staff will be on hand to answer questions regarding the archival material.
LSUS is also proud to participate in Operation Support Our Troops. Operation Support Our Troops is a non-profit organization that sends care packages to deployed and wounded troops. Members of the LSUS community are encouraged to bring donations to the Veterans Day program. For a list of suggested items to donate, please visit www.OSOTinc.org.
