LSU Shreveport to Host National Weightlifting Championships

The USA Weightlifting Center for High Performance and Development at LSU Shreveport will host the 2011 USA Weightlifting National Collegiate Championships April 8-10, 2011. This is the largest collegiate weightlifting event with more than 170 athletes participating. The competition starts at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8. Olympian and LSUS student Kendrick Farris will be competing at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 9.
The collegiate event will be preceded on Thursday, April 7, with the Louisiana Governor's Games Junior Weightlifting Championships. This event will showcase young lifters from the Shreveport area, as well as, some of the top junior lifters from around the country.
The 24 member LSUS team has won the men's title the past four years, the co-ed title the past three years, and the women's title the past two years.
This event is a qualifying event for 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China. The Universiade is an international multi-sport event for university athletes organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
This is the tenth time LSUS has hosted the event. The campus has been the site of twenty national and international weightlifting events.
