LSU Shreveport Tied to Local Oscar Win
February 27, 2012The LSU Shreveport faculty, staff and student body congratulates co-directors William Joyce and Brandon Oldenberg and Moonbot Studios on the Academy Award win for best animated short film for "The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore." Faculty and students of the LSU Shreveport Animation and Visual Effects program assisted filmmakers in telling the story of Morris right here on the LSUS campus in Shreveport, La.
The creation of the scale sets used as backgrounds in the film put LSUS faculty members and students to work alongside Moonbot team members. The 3D printing of the mold master scale books was carried out on LSU Shreveport's 3D printer. Several AVE students were asked to help on set, including hand painting the miniature sets of hundreds of scale books. The AVE program faculty members and students were on-hand as well to provide technical assistance on set for the duration of the shoot of the motion control photographed backgrounds.
Several of the AVE program students who worked on the film are now full-time team members at Moonbot Studios.
LSU Shreveport's Animation and Visual Effects program is unique to the region with state of the art facilities and industry veteran instructors who work with local industry to enhance digital media in Louisiana.
