LSU Shreveport Recognizes National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week

October 10, 2011
LSU Shreveport Rec Sports and the Student Development and Counseling Center are co-hosting events recognizing National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week October 17 - October 21. LSUS Rec Sports and the Counseling Center will partner to distribute information on alcohol awareness and responsible alcohol consumption.

Rec Sports will sponsor Alcohol 101, an interactive computer program to assist students in making safe and responsible decisions about alcohol. Students will be able to browse the "virtual campus" to learn about special issues and decisions regarding alcohol consumption. From the challenges of hosting safe and responsible parties in a Greek setting, to the special peer pressures that athletes and first-year students face, Alcohol 101 provides thoughtful and realistic scenarios for reflection and discussion.

The Counseling Center will have an information table in the University Center throughout the week. Paula Atkins, Director of the Student Development and Counseling Center, will be available to answer questions.

The LSUS Student Activities Board will also host Mark Sterner, presenting "DUI: A Powerful Lesson," Wednesday, October 19 at 11 a.m. in the University Center Theater. In his acclaimed keynote, Sterner shares the bad decisions that changed his life and ended the lives of his friends.

National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) is recognized the third full week in November each year by the BACCHUS Health Education Network.
