LSU Shreveport Professors Receive International Honors
September 28, 2011Two LSU Shreveport faculty members have been appointed to international positions.
LSUS faculty member Emre Celebi, Ph.D., associate professor of computer science, has been elected to the grade of Senior Member of SPIE for his contributions to medical image analysis and color image processing. SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics founded in 1955 to advance light-based technologies. The Society serves more than 170 countries and seeks to advance emerging technologies through interdisciplinary information exchange, continuing education, publications, patent precedent and career and professional growth. This year, 168 researchers from around the world have been promoted to the grade of Senior Member.
LSUS faculty member R. Blake Dunnavent, Ph.D., associate professor of history, has been appointed to the Editorial Board of The Northern Mariner. This quarterly journal, published jointly by the North American Society for Oceanic History and the Canadian Nautical Research Society, is an international maritime and naval journal. It publishes essays including merchant shipping, maritime labor, naval history, shipbuilding, fishing, ports, trade, nautical archaeology and maritime societies.
