LSU Shreveport Professor Receives “Champions for Mathematics Education” Award

LSU Shreveport faculty member Judith Covington, Ph.D., received a "Champions for Mathematics Education" award at the spring meeting of the Northwest Louisiana Mathematics Association Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012.
Covington, an associate professor of mathematics at LSUS since 1993, received this award in recognition of her commitment to support teachers of mathematics and for her efforts in the creation of the North Louisiana Math Teachers' Circle. Additionally, Covington is an active member of both the Mathematical Association of America and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
The NLMTC is a group for mathematics teachers from Bossier, Caddo and DeSoto parishes. The purpose of the organization is to establish a foundation for a culture of problem solving among middle school math teachers in the country and to create a community of middle school teachers and college faculty who are passionate about problem solving and who want to share their ideas with others.
