LSU Shreveport Professor Guest Edits Journal Special Issue

February 17, 2011
LSU Shreveport computer science assistant professor Emre Celebi, Ph.D. guest edited the latest issue of Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics, a top-ranked medical imaging journal.

The theme of the special issue is "Advances in Skin Cancer Image Analysis." Melanoma, the most aggressive form of skin cancer, is one of the most rapidly increasing cancers in the world. Invasive melanoma alone has an estimated incidence of 68,130 and an estimated total deaths of 8,700 in the United States in 2010. Early diagnosis is particularly important since melanoma can be cured with a simple excision if detected early.

Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics is the official journal of the Computerized Medical Imaging Society. The purpose of the journal is to act as a source for the exchange of information concerning the medical use of new developments in imaging diagnosis, intervention, and follow up.

Celebi has taught at LSUS since 2007.
