LSU Shreveport Pioneer Heritage Center Receives Help from Local Real Estate Company

May 09, 2011
The LSU Shreveport Pioneer Heritage Center will receive a face-lift Thursday, May 12 as part of the third annual Keller Williams Realty RED Day. Associates with Keller Williams Realty Northwest will help with the preservation of one of the seven buildings of the Pioneer Heritage Center.

Renew, Energize and Donate (RED) Day was created to unite Keller Williams Realty offices in an international day of service. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, associates from across the United States and Canada participate in a wide range of community service projects.

Marty Young, director of the Pioneer Heritage Center, said, "I am excited for Keller Williams to be coming to campus and for them to be helping restore our building." Young said they will be replacing old wood and painting the interior and exterior of the detached kitchen.

The Pioneer Heritage Center interprets the unique culture and social history of northwest Louisiana from the 1830's to the end of the 19th Century. The Center comprises seven plantation structures many of which are on the National Register of Historic Places. The Center is open to the public year-round, Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
