LSU Shreveport Noel Collection Displays Louisiana Culture
February 28, 2011
The Noel Collection at LSU Shreveport has two unique Louisiana exhibits currently on display. O. Winston Link's photographs are featured on the third floor of the Noel Memorial Library, and items from retired Congressman Jim McCrery's collection are featured in the Library's foyer. The McCrery Collection was donated to LSUS in 2008 by Congressman Jim McCrery.
The O. Winston Link exhibit is comprised of photographs taken in South Louisiana. W. Conway Link, son of O. Winston Link and a former LSUS professor, donated the photographs for the display. Conway is the owner of Gallery 1877 in downtown Shreveport where more of his father's photographs are displayed.
Retired Congressman Jim McCrery's collection includes his Mardi Gras costume worn while representing Louisiana in Washington, D.C., as well as other items from Washington Mardi Gras. The annual Mardi Gras celebration is held in Washington D.C. every year during the Mardi Gras season and the Louisiana delegation plays an active role in hosting various events.
Both exhibits will be on display through the Mardi Gras season. The Noel Collections hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
