LSU Shreveport Instructor Featured in Swiss Newspaper

May 12, 2011
LSU Shreveport Hydrologist in Residence and Director of the Red River Watershed Management Institute Gary Hanson, was published in the article "The U.S. is Sitting on Huge Reserves of Natural Gas" in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, an internationally-known Swiss newspaper.

Hanson and a Shell Oil engineer were interviewed as experts on the Haynesville Shale and the hydraulic fracturing process. Currently, Europe is in turmoil over whether to allow hydraulic fracturing because of activists' claims it is detrimental to drinking water. With the translation Dr. Matyas Buzgo, assistant professor of biological sciences at LSUS, Hanson was able to clarify any misunderstandings there may be about hydraulic fracturing.

Hanson and the Red River Watershed Management Institute at LSUS have played a very important role in researching hydraulic fracturing for the Haynesville Shale and oil and gas companies.
