LSU SHREVEPORT DEBATE TEAM SWEEPS HENDERSON STATE TOURNAMENT

The Louisiana State University Debate team swept the Henderson State “Winter Warm-Up” debate tournament held February 15-17th. The team placed first in overall sweepstakes with 16 individual awards including winning all three divisions of debate.
LSUS advanced a total of nine competitors into the elimination rounds this past weekend. Co-champions from LSUS, Kate Ryland and Chelsea Anthony, closed out the varsity division of the competition. Anthony also received a 1st place varsity speaker award. In the novice division, Joe Valentine and Christian Juneau from LSUS, made it to finals and ended the tournament as co-champions. Both Valentine and Juneau also received speaker awards, Juneau as 3rd place and Valentine as 1st place novice speakers. Director of Debate, Trey Gibson also competed in the professional division and took home 1st place as well as the 1st place professional speaker award.
Also receiving speaker awards at the tournament were LSUS’s Cody Corley, Julie Thomas, and Kirsten Howard. Corley won 4th place varsity speaker. Thomas received 5th place varsity speaker. Howard received 3rd place professional speaker.
Next up for the LSUS debate team will be competition at Bossier Parish Community College the weekend of Feb. 22-24th.
