LSU Shreveport Animation Program Receives $500,000 from Caddo Parish Commission
April 20, 2012
The Animation and Visual Effects program at LSU Shreveport has received $500,000 from the Caddo Parish Commission to offer a new Digital Media Certificate Program. The certificate will be a non-degree, workforce training program. The program will prepare students for careers in digital media fields including animation, visual effects, interactive gaming and visualization for medical and military applications.
This is a full-time intensive digital media program designed to be completed in approximately one year offering day and evening sessions. The program will be taught by industry professionals and will take advantage of the existing specialized technologies and facilities developed by the Animation and Visual Effects program at LSU Shreveport.
"This program will allow us to generate rapid high quality workforce for a large segment of the digital media industry and build on our high caliber degree programs," said John Miralles director of the Animation and Visual Effects program.
The program is open to any adult student with a high school diploma or GED. All applicants will participate in a one month vetting module. Upon successful completion of this module, a blind judging panel of local industry professionals will admit high performing students into the one year certificate program.
Caddo Parish residents who qualify and successfully complete the vetting module will be eligible for tuition-based scholarships provided by the Caddo Parish Commission.
There will be a news conference Thursday, April 26 at 11 a.m. to recognize the Caddo Commission and the generous grant. An invitation will follow.
