LSU Shreveport and Sci-Port Team Up for Unique Exhibit

LSU Shreveport's Space Shots! is hosting artist Jodie Forrest as part of the Sci-Port: Louisiana's Science Center Hubble Space Telescope Traveling Exhibition. The art exhibit is entitled, "Capturing the Cosmos: From Pixels to Paint" and will be featured February 18 through April 15, 2011. 

An Artist Opening Reception at Sci-Port on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. will feature a presentation by Forrest and Ron DiIulio, Director of the Astronomy Program at the University of North Texas and a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador. The reception is free for Sci-Port members and $7 for nonmembers. Call (318) 424-8660 to make reservations; space is limited.

All of the reference photos for the realistic paintings by Forrest are Hubble photographs of galaxies and nebula. The artwork is acrylic on canvas or panel. Forrest is an artist living and working in Borrego Springs, Calif.

Space Shots! is a lecture series at LSU Shreveport which features renowned speakers around the theme of space science. The series began in 2006 and is partially funded by the George A. Khoury, Jr. Super Professorship in Space Science. Past guests include: Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Kathryn Sullivan, Mario Livio, and Jocelyn Bell Burnell. The recipient of this super professorship is Dr. Laura A. Whitlock, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Physics.
