March 22, 2013

Former Presidential speech writer and prolific author James C. Humes will give a public presentation in the Noel Library at LSUS on Wednesday, March 27, at 11:00 am as part of the Distinguished Speaker series hosted by the LSUS Humanities/Social Science Honors Program.

Humes worked with several Presidents including Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and George H. W. Bush.  He accompanied Richard Nixon on his historic visit to China in 1972 and was one of the authors of the material on the Apollo 11 lunar plaque commemorating the 1969 moon landing.

The public lecture will focus on his most recent book, Churchill: The Prophetic Statesman, and his work as a Churchill scholar.  Humes was acquainted with Churchill and brings to life this extraordinary statesman in person and in print.

The lecture is free and open to the public.  The author will sign copies of his books for those who bring them.  This lecture is underwritten by the English Speaking Union and sponsored by the Humanities/Social Science Honors Program of LSU Shreveport.
