Students selected as Ambassadors, SOAR leaders
Students relate best with other students, and LSUS puts that theory into practice in its Ambassador and SOAR recruiting and orientation...

AND THE WINNER IS...VERY SURPRISED!
Jim Fritze, (top left) owner of Red River Chevrolet in Bossier City, draws the winning ticket from the bag held by Michelle Landrum. Merlyn Smith, winner of the grand prize vehicle from Red River Chevrolet, was caught completely by surprise (top right) when she was handed her winning ticket. Smith is the owner of Mimi's Hallmark in Bayou Walk Shopping Center. The drawing culminated a fundraising raffle conducted by the LSUS Institute for Human Services and Public Policy. Institute Director Dr. Norm Dolch and Landrum, Development Director for the Institute, presented Smith with a handful of balloons in addition to her rafflee-winning ticket.

LSUS has named a veteran and award-winning public relations practitioner and journalist as its director of media and public relations...

On the set of LSUS Today
Dr. Johnette McCrery discusses the academic scene at LSUS with Dominic Claiborne (left) and Dr. Stuart Mills at the taping of the premiere of "LSUS Today," a monthly 30-minute program being aired on three Shreveport-based television stations. McCrery, an assistant professor of communications, is the show's host. Claiborne is a senior journalism major and Mills is provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. The first of at least five programs aired in February on KPXJ-TV (PAX 21), KSHV-TV (WB 45) and KMSS-TV (FOX 33). LSUS Today will unveil many exciting, but perhaps little-known, aspects of the campus. Check the LSUS Web site - www.lsus.edu - for air dates and times.

Tea for Teachers

Pullen is an LSUS graduate, and her school works closely with the LSUS College of Education as a PDS. The LAESP sponsors a tea at the end of the spring and fall semesters.

McCrery chairs Sci-Port
Dr. Johnette McCrery, assistant professior of communications, is serving as 2002 chairman of Sci-Port Discover Center's Board of Directors. McCrery joined the LSUS faculty last fall.

Librarian retires after 31 years
Velma Lorene Lightfoot, a library specialist at Noel Memorial Library, retired in January after 31 years of service with LSUS. Dr. Alan Gabehart, dean and librarian of Noel Memorial Library, who honored Lightfoot with a retirement luncheon Jan. 23, recognized her for her dedication to the university and to the library.

Just going to putter around
Longtime LSUS Athletic Director Larry Rambin shows off the golf putter he was given as a memento from his friends at his retirement party. Admiring the craftsmanship of the club are (from left) Southwood High School Athletic Director Doug Robinson, Rambin's wife, Mary Agnes, and Dr. Tim Winter, chairman of the Department of Kinesiology & Health Science. Rambin joined the LSUS family in July 1982.

Great, Granddad, You're Retiring
University Center Custodian Ellis Harvest, who retired after 27 years of service at LSUS, holds great-grandson Jaden Williams at his retirement party. Shannon Murphy, director of student activities, holds Harvest's great-granddaughter Khaleisha Brown. Harvest said retirement will give him more time to spend with the children and to just relax.

Pioneer Hertiage Center announces new hours
The Pioneer Hertiage Center will be open to the public 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday through Friday, until November 30. Group tours may also be scheduled at other times by appointment by calling 797-5339.

Continuing Ed welcomes new staff, offers discounts
The Division of Continuing Education and Public Service has five new staff members, and offers a number of discounts for the campus family...
