Not Just for Men
Heather Snethen (inset and lifting), 15, of St. Joseph, Mo., lifts one-and-a-half times her body weight in winning the 48-Kg. class in the USA Weightlifting National 23 and Under Championships held in the LSUS Health and Physical Education Building in February. LSUS's U.S. Weightlifting Development Center hosted the competition, which also included the National Collegiate Championships, the primary qualifier for the World University Championships to be held in Ankara, Turkey, in June. The 23 and under division was the primary qualifier for the Guatemala Cup to be held in Guatemala City in June. Heather, the youngest female lifter in the competition, is the daughter of USA Weightlifting's president, Dennis Snethen.

Setters was the featured speaker for the program. Involved in the conversation are Dr. Ron Byrd, professor of kinesiology and health science; Truehart Livingston, a Midway MVP; Missy Setters; Koretta Miller, a Midway MVP, and Dr. Cay Evans, professor of education. Byrd and Evans were leaders of the event's organizing committee.
