Library
puts integrated system online

In
May, Noel Memorial Library implemented a new Integrated
Library System (ILS) that provides new online features
to students and faculty.
“The
system is much more functional,” said Carla
Clark, head of access services and systems. “We
are very excited about this new feature.”
Under
the new system, users have more options such as viewing
“My Account,” “Interlibrary Loans”
and “Reserves.”
In
“My Account,” users can view the materials
they have checked out and their due dates, renew items
and place holds on items that are currently checked
out.
Easy-to-follow
instructions get new users started quickly.
The
other new features, “Interlibrary Loan”
and “Reserves,” will not be ready for
use until mid-fall.
Once ready, though, users can request items electronically
from other libraries by using the “Interlibrary
Loan” feature. And, with the “Reserves”
feature, Clark said professors can submit reserve
items electronically so students can download the
items online.
“The
system is also a lot more efficient for the staff,”
Clark said.
Staff
members will now be able to notify patrons by e-mail
of overdue books and late fees. They will also be
able to block patrons from checking out more books
if they have high fines or too many books already
checked out.
